Jonathan Meltz

Attorney at Law Criminal Attorney Miami

Miami Drug Crimes AttorneyJonathan Meltz was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Peabody, a proud, working-class suburb on Boston's North Shore.  Peabody, widely known for its cultural diversity, also has its own distinct history in American Crime and Punishment.  It was the home of Giles Cory, the only person pressed to death by stones in the hysteria of infamous Salem Witch Trials.  Albert DeSalvo, better known to the world as "The Boston Strangler", is also buried there.  Peabody was also famous in the late 1900's for its leather hide-tanning factories.  As homage to the city's roots, the high school mascot is a bull and the sports teams are called the "Tanners".  Other favorite sons of Peabody include Professional Wrestler Prince Albert (aka Matt Bloom), Comedian Gary Gulman and former Major League Baseball pitcher John Tudor.Criminal Lawyers Miami

College Education and Work Background
A graduate of the University of Miami's School of Communication in 1991, Mr. Meltz holds a double-major in Advertising and Political Science, as well as a minor in Marketing.  During college, Mr. Meltz's vast achievements and deep commitment to the campus community were recognized as he was inducted into the Iron Arrow Honor Society - the highest honor attainable at the University of Miami.

After graduation, Mr. Meltz sought to gain practical work experience before attending law school so he accepted a marketing position with the IBM Corporation in New York City.  Spending two years working for "Big Blue" provided him with invaluable insight and experience in the corporate world, laying the foundation for his interest in Business Law.Criminal Attorneys Miami

Legal Education
Desiring to be a trial attorney, Mr. Meltz chose to attend the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law at Queens College - a school highly-regarded for training trial lawyers through its clinical program and "learn by doing" approach to law.  During law school, he began to develop his litigation ability, trial skills and knowledge of criminal law by working for the Legal Aid Society of New York and the Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc.  He also began representing actual clients as a third-year law student through the school's partnership with the local public defender's office.  Additionally, Mr. Meltz found time to serve a two-year stint as editor-in-chief of The Brief, the law school newspaper.  As editor, he gained not only incredible experience as an editor-writer, but also as a defendant in a First Amendment lawsuit.  When the newspaper refused to publish an advertisement, the editors were sued.   In Leeds v. Meltz, 85 F.3d 51 (2d Cir. 1996), a federal court of appeals dismissed the case filed by a law school graduate who claimed the editors' refusal to run his ad violated his First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.Miami Drunk Driving Lawyer

Public Interest Law Background
Mr. Meltz's legal work experience dates back to college and well before law school.  As a University of Miami undergraduate, he worked for two years as a work-study intern with the Bail Bond Hearing Unit and Juvenile Division of the Dade County Public Defender's Office.

After graduating from law school in New York City in 1996, Mr. Meltz accepted a trial lawyer position with the Public Defender's Office in Miami-Dade County, Florida.  Known to be relentlessly devoted to preparation, he occasionally slept in his office as a young assistant public defender.  As a devoted and committed trial attorney for almost seven years, Mr. Meltz was in court on a daily basis and participated in over 50 jury trials defending clients charged with Murder, DUI, Armed Robbery, Sex Crimes, Kidnapping, Drug Trafficking and other serious felonies.  He also occasionally served as a host for "Public Defender Live", a live television show broadcast from the Dade County Jail where inmates called in to get answers to their legal questions.  Mr. Meltz also drafted a very popular self-help brochure for clients titled "How to Do Probation and Stay Out of Prison". In addition to training new assistant public defenders as part of the Public Defender Training Program, he also traveled around the country to recruit and interview applicants for new attorney positions.  Back close to home, Mr. Meltz also guest lectured on "Justice and the Constitution" at the Florida International University School of Policy and Management.Miami Drug Crimes Lawyer
